Using Crucible® In The Treatment Of Couples

Online Workshop Series

Starting March 2025

Presented by: Natalie Westera

Treating Highly Combative Couples Using Crucible Therapy

What do you do when a couple comes into therapy and is highly combative and difficult to establish an alliance with?  What do you do when you try to settle them down, only for them to continue escalating?

In this webinar series we will look at how to help couples that are prone to acute regressions.  We will look at how to handle the issues that come up when working with these types of couples, including how to pull up their functioning when they are acutely regressed in therapy.

Using video material of a session with a couple, you will see an experienced Crucible Therapist demonstrating the skills that are being taught.  You will learn how to develop clinical interventions that are effective and establish a therapeutic alliance with a highly combative couple that are acutely regressed.  This will be an interactive workshop, where participants will get the opportunity to ask questions and the chance to practice what they are learning.  Some of the concepts that will be covered during this webinar series include:

·        Dealing with acute regressions in the therapy room.

·        How to develop clinical interventions that are effective and establish traction with the couple.

·        Co-construction of the case.

·        Establishing treatment goals and identifying what the most important issue is in the case.

·        Developing collaborative alliance with the couple and doing collaborative confrontation.

·        Building and maintaining a balanced alliance with the couple

·        How to increase the couple’s level of differentiation.

·        How to handle couples that avoid addressing important issues in their relationship.

·        The importance of mind mapping in Crucible Therapy, and how to deal with mind masking and mind twisting.

·        Creating moments of meeting

·        Handling difficult dynamics in the therapy room.

·        The importance of the personal development of the therapist.

·        Handling complexity of couples therapy.

All levels of experience in Crucible Therapy are welcome to attend this workshop.   If you are new to Crucible Therapy, you will learn how to treat couples using Crucible framework and see what Crucible Therapy looks like in practice.  If you are experienced in Crucible Therapy, you will have the opportunity to sharpen your ability to see and handle what is going on in the case.  You will further develop your ability to make clinical interventions that establish traction with the couple.  In addition, you will improve your ability to make decisions about the goal/direction of therapy and identify the most important issues in the case.
